A people-powered campaign
Below find out where John stands on sustainable funding for our public health infrastructure, attainable housing, road and flood control improvements, and climate action.
Issues
Goals
Establish the Rt. 53 Greenway. I'm working with state legislators and environmental groups to make this 1,000-acre green space project a reality.
Complete the Cedar Lake Road Re-Alignment Project. I worked with a strong team to secure a $19 million federal grant, the largest in Lake County history. It will improve safety, traffic flow, lower pollution, create economic growth and extend the Forest Preserve's Millennium Trail through Round Lake.
Lower Housing Costs. I'm part of a coalition working to create attainable housing for everyone, reduce homelessness and expand green homebuilding.
Green Lake County. I'm working to do more lakes testing (for toxic algae blooms) and expand our countywide efforts to reduce carbon emissions. I'm also advocating for 1) a proposal to build a new net-zero (carbon emissions) headquarters for the Forest Preserve in Grayslake and 2) promote local agriculture to lower fresh food costs.
Accomplishments
I've advocated for and acquired funding for these essential projects as Board Legislative Committee Chair to improve public health, restore the environment/Forest Preserves, reduce flooding, and fix/improve road safety. All told, I've helped fund $152 million in public projects, none of which raised your property taxes one dollar.
Cedar Lake Road Re-Alignment. I went to Washington and worked with our legislative team to garner a $19 million grant, the largest in Round Lake -- and Lake County -- history. This project will vastly improve road safety, economic development, reduce carbon emissions and extend the Forest Preserve's Millennium Trail.
Rt. 53 Greenway. I vigorously supported the Forest Preserve's ongoing talks to acquire land and preserve green space in this corridor.
Highland Lake Water System Upgrade. This system was out of state compliance for years, but I was able to secure a $2.5 million federal grant to improve the well, storage and piping.
Frontline Wellness Center. Vets and first responders have a disproportionately high rate of suicide. I worked with Round Lake officials to make this first-of-its-kind mental health wellness mecca a reality through a $2.5 million grant. John was the first person called upon to work on this project—he delivered.
The mayor of Third Lake asked John to help fund a novel project that would not only filter water from Mill Creek into Third Lake, but create the state's first wetland plant nursery, run by the Forest Preserve-he delivered.
Hainesville Road. I supported the upgrade of the road between Washington and Rollins that will feature new bicycle and pedestrian paths.
Haryan Farms Stormwater Relief. I supported the construction of a drainage pipe from Haryan that will provide flood water relief.
Gages Lake Water Tower, etc. A new water tower is being constructed. I supported this project and a water main upgrade.
Grayslake Manor and Sustainable Landscapes. These separate projects will provide flooding relief and natural landscaping, respectively. I advocated for funding them.
Forest Preserve Trail/Facility Repairs. I've advocated for more than $1 million in major trail repairs in Rollins Savanna, improvements for the Duck Farm dog park and Millennium Trail extension in Nippersink Forest Preserve.
